Cecil College Women's Soccer Signs Gavan and Mallory
North East High School's Brenna Gavan and Jessica Mallory will continue to be teammates on the soccer field, as the senior captains signed National Letters of Intent to play for Cecil College. Gavan, who played midfield and defense for the Indians, plans to study nursing at Cecil. She is described by Cecil coach Mark Farra as a very versatile player. "I saw Brenna play both indoor and outdoor soccer and was very impressed with her skills and hard-nose approach," said Farra. Mallory, who will major in education, played multiple positions at North East. "Jessica is a player with incredible upside in that she can play goalie and the field," said Farra. "She plays with heart and determination every time she steps on the field."

Three Local Soccer Players Sign with Cecil College
Three local soccer players signed with Cecil College as the women's program attempts a comeback for the fall 2008 season. In the fall of 2005, Elkton graduate Ashley Willis watched helplessly as the Cecil Community College women's soccer team she loved playing for folded midway through the season, not due to a lack of passion, but a lack of bodies. "The season that fell through was absolutely devastating because we had a lot of good girls and so much support from the College," said Willis, a Golden Elks captain during her junior and senior years. "We just didn't have the players. It was such a rewarding experience to be part of a team, but not having all the players just really took away from that season." This fall Willis will play alongside Jessica Shamrock, Elkton High School graduate, Tara Bernal, Rising Sun High School graduate and Michelle Butcher, a senior at Elkton Christian Academy.
