Summer Tennis Camp for Youth

Coach Krummel is entering her 4th season as Head Women's Tennis Coach at Cecil College. Prior to coaching at CC, she was the Assistant Coach of the co-ed tennis team at Rising Sun High School (MD). She is also a certified PTR who actively teaches at CC and through local Parks & Recreation. She is a USTA and WTT member and regularly plays on teams throughout the year. Coach Krummel, along with current and former members of the Cecil Women's Tennis Team, will be responsible for teaching and demonstrating all aspects of the game of tennis.

Camp Activities:
Small group sizes, fundamentals of the forehand, backhand, volley and serve taught and reinforced, strategy, mental preparation and confidence building, competitive and fun drills, games, competition, awards, prizes, t-shirt and written evaluation for each camp participant.

When/Who:
August 11-15, 2008, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-1:30pm. Free before and after care available.
Incoming 3rd through 10th grade boys and girls. Campers will be grouped by age and skill level.

What to Bring:
Bag lunch, or if you prefer, Pizza Hut lunch and beverage will be available at lunch time for $5.00.

Cost:
$125.00 per player; $10.00 discount for each additional family member.

  • #1 Doubles Back Draw Quarterfinals: F.Ferdinand/M.Andrade won against E.Walker/L.Wallace (Jones County CC, Mississippi) 8-3 in a pro set

*Note: Cecil finished day #3 in 31st place (35 teams) even though they are competing with only 4 players and most of the teams at the tournament have full squads.

Cecil Women's Tennis Heads to the NJCAA National Championship

The NJCAA Women's Tennis National Championship is currently taking place in Tucson, Arizona from May 3-9. Players representing Cecil College and Region XX are:

Maria Andrade, Freshmen from Queens, NY, 2nd Singles & 1st Doubles
Valerie Reynolds, Sophomore from Elkton, MD, 4th Singles & 2nd Doubles
and Rebecca Reynolds, Sophomore from Elkton, MD, 6th Singles & 2nd Doubles.

Local Player Signs with Cecil Women's Tennis

They are accompanied by returning player, Rachel Meholic (right) from Wilmington, DE who also signed her letter of intent to return to the Seahawk line-up this upcoming 2008 - 2009 season.



Women’s Tennis Finishes Second in Region; Four Seahawks Qualify for Nationals

The women’s tennis team won four of the nine individual flights and was the runner-up at the four-team NJCAA Region 20 Tournament, which was hosted by Cecil College on October 28-29. Hagerstown Community College edged the Seahawks by one point, while Harford Community College and Montgomery College-Rockville were third and fourth, respectively. Individual champions qualifying for the NJCAA Division I Championship in Tucson, Ariz. May 3 - 8, 2008 were Maria Andrade at No. 2 singles, Valerie Reynolds at No. 4 singles, Rebecca Reynolds at No. 6 singles, and Andrade and Frances Ferdinand at No. 1 doubles. Ferdinand was the runner-up at No. 1 singles.



Cecil College Hosts Region XX Tennis Tournament

Due to inclement weather the Region XX Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday October 26 and 27 has been postponed to Sunday and Monday October 28 and 29.
Cecil College will host the 2007 Region XX Tennis Tournament on Sunday, October 28 beginning at 10:00am and continuing throughout the day. Play will resume with the Championship matches on Monday, October 29 beginning at 10:00am. The competition will feature two NJCAA Division I teams, Cecil College and Hagerstown Community College, and two Division III squads, Montgomery College-Rockville and Harford Community College. The tournament will consist of six singles and three doubles flights with players earning points for their schools with each victory. The semifinals will be played Sunday and the finals will take place Monday.
Admission is free on both days and there will be a concession stand with lunch foods, including soups and sandwiches. All proceeds from concessions will benefit the Cecil College women's tennis team. Bring a chair and come out to the hillside to cheer the lady Seahawks on to a championship and a berth to the NJCAA National Tournament! The championship team and individuals who win their flight will qualify to represent Region XX at the National Tournament in Tucson, Arizona May 3 - 9, 2008.

#4 Singles Player, Valerie Reynolds, 10 - 0 record, two-time Harford NIT Champion, 2006 Regular Season Champion, 2006 Region XX Champion, 2006 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-Region, National Tournament Appearance. Valerie earned the #1 seed in the 2007 Region XX Tournament.

Women’s Tennis Defeats Harford

Cecil traveled to Harford Community College on Tuesday, October 23rd for a conference match and the conclusion of the home match from September 18th that was postponed due to darkness. The Lady Seahawks won the first match by a score of 6 - 3. Singles wins were recorded by Maria Andrade (2nd), Valerie Reynolds (4th), Elyse Cormier (5th) and Rebecca Reynolds (6th). Doubles wins were recorded by Frances Ferdinand/ Maria Andrade (1st) and Valerie Reynolds/Rebecca Reynolds (2nd). Cecil was trailing 3 - 4 when the September 18th match was called due to darkness. On Tuesday, Rebecca Reynolds resumed her 5th singles match and won in the 3rd set to tie the team scores at 4 - 4. Frances Ferdinand battled out the 3rd set against Katrina Tiedeman (Harford) at the 1st singles position but with the set score at 6-all, she lost the tie break 5 - 7. Harford earned the win by a score of 5 - 4. Cecil's final regular season results are 8 - 2 overall and 4 - 2 conference. Maria Andrade (2nd), Valerie Reynolds (4th) and Rebecca Reynolds (6th) singles records all improve to 10 -0 and they will each earn the #1 seed for this weekend's Region Tournament. Frances Ferdinand's record at 1st singles is 6 - 4 and she will earn the #2 seed in the Region Tournament. The 1st Doubles (Ferdinand/Andrade) and 2nd Doubles (Reynolds/Reynolds) and will also most likely earn the #2 seed for the tournament but this is yet to be determined.

Women’s Tennis Wins on the Road

Cecil Women's Tennis defeated conference opponent Montgomery Rockville College on the road Monday, October 22 by a score of 9 - 0. This win marks the third time this season the Seahawks have shut their opponent out and swept all 9 courts. Recording singles wins in straight sets and collectively dropping only 13 games were Frances Ferdinand (1st), Maria Andrade (2nd), Rachel Meholic (3rd), Valerie Reynolds (4th), Elyse Cormier (5th) and Rebecca Reynolds (6th). Recording doubles wins were Frances Ferdinand/Maria Andrade (1st), Valerie Reynolds/Rebecca Reynolds (2nd) and Rachel Meholic/Elyse Cormier (3rd). With the win, Cecil's overall record improves to 7 - 1 and the conference record to 3 - 1. Cecil will travel to Harford Community College at 3:30pm on Tuesday, October 23 for their last match of the season. They will play the scheduled dual match againist the conference opponent and finish the dual match from September 18th that was postponed due to darkness.

Women’s Tennis Wins Again

Cecil Women's Tennis improved to a 6 - 1 overall record with a home win against Goldey Beacom College by a score of 6 - 3 on Wednesday, October 17. Goldey is a NCAA Division II school who picked up a strong 1st singles player since the first match of the season when Cecil won 9 - 0. Singles wins were recorded by Maria Andrade (2nd singles), Valerie Reynolds (3rd singles), Elyse Cormier (5th singles) and Rebecca Reynolds (6th singles). Doubles wins were recorded by Valerie Reynolds and Rebecca Reynolds (2nd Doubles) and Rachel Meholic and Elyse Cormier (3rd Doubles). Singles players Maria Andrade, Valerie Reynolds and Rebecca Reynolds remain undefeated on the season. On Monday, October 21, the Lady Seahawks will travel to the D.C. area to play Montgomery-Rockville College at 3:00pm.

Women’s Tennis Defeats Gloucester

Cecil Women's Tennis won by a score of 8 - 1 at home on October 15 against Gloucester County College (NJ). Singles wins were recorded by Frances Ferdinand (1st singles) and Maria Andrade (2nd singles), each winning in a tie break in lieu of a 3rd set. Valerie Reynolds (4th singles) and Rebecca Reynolds (5th singles) each won in straight sets and Elyse Cormier (6th singles) earned the forfeit win. Doubles wins were recorded by Frances Ferdinand and Maria Andrade (1st doubles), who were victorious against the same talented team they defeated in the Harford NIT Tournament to claim the 1st doubles championship. Valerie Reynolds and Rebecca Reynolds (2nd doubles) were also victorious and Rachel Meholic and Elyse Cormier (3rd singles) earned the forfeit win. Maria Andrade (1st), Valerie Reynolds (4th) and Rebecca Reynolds (5th/6th) remain undefeated in singles play. With the win, the Lady Seahawks improve to a 5 - 1 overall record and a 2 - 1 conference record. The next match is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17th at 3:30pm at Cecil against Goldey Beacom College (DE).

Women’s Tennis Dealt First Defeat

The women’s tennis team suffered its first setback of the season in a loss at Hagerstown Community College on Tuesday, October 9. Maria Andrade, Valerie Reynolds and Rebecca Reynolds remained undefeated in singles play, while Frances Ferdinand also prevailed for the Seahawks who are 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Cecil will host Gloucester Community College at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 15.

Women’s Tennis Wins Again and Fans Enjoy Tailgate Party

About 50 staff members, students and fellow athletes turned out to show their support for the Lady Seahawks on Tailgate Day. Fans were served free hot dogs, chips and beverages. The women’s tennis team remained unbeaten (4-0) and improved to 2-0 in conference play in a 9-0 home shutout of Montgomery-Rockville on Tuesday, October 2. Frances Ferdinand, Maria Andrade, Rachel Meholic, Valerie Reynolds, Elyse Cormier, and Rebecca Reynolds each prevailed at singles and doubles. Andrade, Valerie Reynolds and Rebecca Reynolds are undefeated for the season. The Seahawks will travel to New Jersey on Friday, October 5 to take on Brookdale Community College at 4 p.m.

Cecil Places 2nd Overall in Harford NIT Tournament

The Cecil Women's Tennis Team, playing down a player, participated in the Harford NIT Tournament September 29 & 30. This ten team tournament was comprised of teams from New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Maryland. Cecil finished in 2nd place in the overall team standings just one point out of first place. Individuals champions include Frances Ferdinand and Maria Andrade at 1st Doubles, Valerie Reynolds at 4th Singles and Rebecca Reynolds at 5th Singles. The 2nd Doubles team of Valerie Reynolds and Rebecca Reynolds were semi-finalists. Last year, the 2006 Lady Seahawks placed 3rd in this tournament with Valerie Reynolds the lone individual Champion at 4th Singles.
On Tuesday, October 2 at 4 p.m. the home match vs. Montgomery-Rockville is Tailgate Day. Free hot dogs, chips and beverages will be provided for all fans.

Women's Tennis Defeats Hagerstown

In an exciting end to the match, Rebecca Reynolds came back in 3rd set to give Cecil a 5-4 win over visiting Hagerstown Community College on Tuesday, September 25. With the match tied 4-4, Rebecca Reynold's 6th singles court was to be the deciding court for the contest. Down 2 -5 in the third set after winning the first 7-5 and dropping the second 4-6 to Kaitlyn Bead of Hagerstown, Rebecca fought back to tie the set score at 6-6 and force a tie break for the match. Rebecca's consistent play and gutsy performance propelled her to a 7-4 victory in the third set tie break that gave the Lady Seahawks the 5-4 win. Other winning courts were: 1st Singles Frances Ferdinand, 2nd Singles Maria Andrade, and 4th Singles Valerie Reynolds all in straight sets and the 3rd Doubles team of Elyse Cormier/Rachel Meholic. Cecil improves to a 2-0 overall record.

Results for ITA Regional Tournament

The women's tennis team played in the ITA/Wilson Small College Regional Tournament at Central Alabama Community College on September 20-23. This is a highly competitive tournament which features some of the best programs in the Southeast. In addition to Cecil and Central Alabama, the other participating colleges included Oxford College of Emory University, Abraham Baldwin College, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Spartanburg Methodist College, Young Harris College, Meridian Community College, Pearl River, and Marion Military Institute. It is the first time Cecil women's tennis has competed in a tournament of this caliber, and results will be used to help seed for the national tournament in the spring.

The team won 12 matches during the three-day competition. First-round match and bye losers qualified for the back draw/consolation bracket. Frances Ferdinand was the back draw “A” division champion. Elyse Cormier was a main draw “B” division semifinalist. Rachel Meholic was a back draw “B” division semifinalist. Frances Ferdinand and Maria Andrade were main draw doubles quarterfinalists.

Women’s Tennis Update

Trailing 4-3 with the final two contests in progress, on Tuesday, September 18,the women’s tennis match vs. Harford Community College was stopped because of darkness. The match will be completed at a later date. Valerie Reynolds won at singles and at doubles with Rebecca Reynolds. The Seahawks’ other victory was provided by Maria Andrade in singles play.

Women’s Tennis Wins Opener

The women’s tennis team began its season last week with a 9-0 shutout of Goldey-Beacom College. Frances Ferdinand, Maria Andrade, Valerie Reynolds, Rebecca Reynolds, Elyse Cormier and Rachel Meholic each prevailed at both singles and doubles.

Seventeen boys and girls ages 5 - 15 recently participated in a day of tennis games, drills, tests of skills and round robin singes/doubles competitions. The participants were instructed under the supervision of Head Women's Tennis Coach, Sherri Krummel and her 2007-2008 Women's Tennis Team.

Thirty-two fourth through ninth graders recently participated in a Youth Tennis Camp from August 6-10 at Cecil College. The campers were instructed under the supervision of Head Women's Tennis Coach, Sherri Krummel and her 2007-2008 Women's Tennis Team.
