Alpha Alpha Theta

Alpha Alpha Theta is Cecil College's Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of Two-Year Colleges. Phi Theta Kappa has recognized academic excellence in the two-year college since 1918 and has become the largest and the most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world.

Cecil College students are invited to join Alpha Alpha Theta (AAT) when they have completed twelve transferable credits with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Once inducted into the honor society, members must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 to remain in good standing.

How to Join

Eligible members must return a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) member profile form, an AAT membership card and a biography to the Club Advisor with $70.00 dues (checks payable to Cecil College). It is also asked that students complete a biographical information form. Portions of this form will be used to introduce new members at the induction ceremony.

Each year a ceremony is held in the Amphitheater. This ceremony includes the induction of new members, officers, and five-star program awards. We encourage students to bring family and friends. Concluding the ceremony there will be pictures, food and beverages.

Benefits of Membership

Members are entitled to the many benefits listed in the PTK brochure, including transfer scholarships reserved just for members at many four-year institutions. Prospective members will discover much more about the organization by visiting the PTK website at ptk.cecil.edu.

In addition, PTK Middle States offers programs throughout the year bringing Cecil's chapter in close contact with honor society students at other community colleges in the Middle States region. AAT offers a variety of scholarly activities as well as opportunities to develop leadership skills, to provide service to the community, and to enjoy the fellowship of others. Members in good standing at the time of graduation wear gold satin stoles and gold tassels with the graduation robes. They receive a gold seal for their diplomas and their membership is noted on the commencement program.
