Program Description: Certified Nursing Assistants are the foundation of in-patient care. Whether in a hospital
setting or a long-term care facility, the nursing assistant is on the front lines, caring for
patients' daily needs. In a combination of 80 hours of theory and 59 hours of clinical
experience, students learn the necessary skills to properly care for patients. At the
completion of the program, students will be eligible to become certified through the Maryland
Board of Nursing. Our program also prepares students to take the Geriatric Nursing Assistant
certification exam to work in a long-term care facility.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Basic skills assessment in math and English (minimum 9th grade level)
- Immunization Record (PPD, MMR and Hepatitus B)
- Proof of health insurance or medical expense waiver
- CPR
- Criminal background check is required by the Maryland Board of Nursing
Miscellaneous Information:
At the completion of the entire program (theory and clinical), the College awards students a
Certificate of Completion. Students will also receive an application to the Maryland Board of
Nursing for their certification. The cost of the certificate from the Maryland Board of
Nursing is currently $20. Requirements for students wishing to apply for a Geriatric Nursing
Assistant (GNA) certification must complete the CNA program, apply for CNA certification
through the Maryland Board of Nursing, and apply to take the GNA exam at the organization
providing the exam and pay the fee of $86. This application will also be made available to
students.
