Medical Assistant Program (Certification)
Non-Credit Courses
General Program Information: 410 287-6060, ext 760 or 707
Program Description:
In the current nursing shortage, doctors are turning more and more to trained medical
assistants to provide required services in seeing and treating patients on an out-patient
basis. This program provides students with all the necessary skills to run an efficient
medical practice. A medical assistant can run an entire office or help in any capacity,
including scheduling appointments, greeting patients, taking their vital signs, drawing
blood, ordering prescriptions, educating patients about a medical condition, billing
insurance companies, and transcribing medical reports.
Cecil College's Medical Assistant Program has been reviewed and
judged to be in compliance with nationally established standards through
the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
and received full accreditation on September 16, 2005. This means that
all graduates of the Medical Assistant Program are eligible to sit for
the certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
