Medical Receptionist
Non-Credit Courses
General Program Information: 410 287-6060, ext 641 or 707
Program Description: Medical receptionists greet visitors, answer
telephones, route and screen calls, respond to inquiries from the public, schedule patient
appointments, gather patients' personal and financial information and direct them to the
proper waiting rooms. Receptionists in hospitals and doctors' offices are the first
representatives that visitors encounter and they often leave a lasting impression of
the organization. Most receptionists are expected to perform a variety of office duties,
including opening and sorting mail, collecting and distributing parcels, transmitting and
delivering facsimiles, updating appointment calendars, preparing travel vouchers, and
performing basic bookkeeping, word processing, and filing. Employment for medical
receptionists is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations through
2014. All courses in this program apply to the Medical Assistant and/or the Medical
Coder/Biller programs. The full-time day program can be completed in 13 weeks.
