NORTH EAST, Md: Cecil College’s Art and Design Program is thrilled to announce that one of its esteemed faculty members, Joshua Schaefer, has been honored with a prestigious fellowship by the Mid-Atlantic Arts and The New Jersey State Council on the Arts for 2024.
Schaefer’s exceptional talent has been recognized with this fellowship, a testament to his dedication and artistic prowess. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship brings a substantial grant worth $29,700, which will provide the necessary support for his artistic exploration in 2024.
“With this grant, I will be moving onto larger paintings that explore themes related to loss, melancholy, identity, childhood, morose humor, and more via the settings of my studio. Located in a former wing of the Germantown Hospital and Dispensary in Philadelphia, the space is ripe for exploring these particular motifs. The paintings will eventually be exhibited in various galleries and museums throughout the East Coast,” said Schaefer.
Schaefer has been an adjunct studio art and art history instructor at Cecil College since the Fall of 2016. His works have been on display at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum and the North Carolina Museum of Art, along with exhibitions with galleries in Philadelphia and New York City.
Schaefer resides in Voorhees, N.J., with his studio in Philadelphia.
