NORTH EAST, MD: The Cecil College Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Hiram C. Brown, Sr. Memorial and F. Donaldson Brown Memorial Scholarship – a new endowed scholarship designed to transform the lives of students in Cecil County.
This scholarship aims to support students with a passion for the arts and social service, providing them with the opportunity to pursue their dreams and continue the legacy of two remarkable individuals: Hiram C. Brown, Sr. and F. Donaldson Brown.
Jacqueline Brown and her son Hiram Brown, Jr., who have long been dedicated to public service and community improvement, are helping to organize this philanthropic effort. The Brown family, a cornerstone of Cecil County for generations, are committed to preserving the values of compassion, creativity, and social responsibility through this new scholarship.
Hiram C. Brown, Sr. was a beloved figure in the community, known for his work as a musician and his tireless dedication to helping those in need. A graduate of Cecil College, Hiram Sr. achieved success in the music industry, working with some of the most renowned musicians of his time. However, despite his busy career, he was never too occupied to support families in need and give back to his community.
In addition to his work as a musician, Hiram Sr. was an entrepreneur and operated his own music and entertainment production company, booking live events across the East Coast.
The Brown family, deeply rooted in Cecil County, reside in Elkton. They are also continuing their commitment to education through a second scholarship, the Hiram C. Brown, Sr. Memorial Scholarship, which they established over a decade ago in honor of Hiram Sr.’s dedication to arts and community.
The new scholarship also honors F. Donaldson Brown, an influential financial executive who made significant contributions to DuPont and General Motors Corporation. A graduate of Virginia Tech, F. Donaldson Brown played an instrumental role in the development of financial strategies that helped shape GM into one of the world’s leading automotive companies. F. Donaldson Brown was a leader in the business world and is remembered for his innovative financial work, including the introduction of standard financial ratios and flexible budgeting that helped manage GM’s vast empire.
The Cecil College Foundation’s new scholarship is a tribute to the extraordinary legacies of both Hiram C. Brown, Sr. and F. Donaldson Brown, individuals who excelled in their fields while maintaining a profound commitment to their communities. The scholarship aims to foster the same qualities of compassion, creativity, and social responsibility that defined their lives.
