ELKTON, Md: Cecil College’s Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development has successfully collaborated with Delmarva Power, a division of Exelon, to launch a pioneering training initiative to prepare adults for careers in the utility industry. This partnership has culminated in the graduation of nine adult students from the inaugural cohort of the Powering the Workforce Utility Training Program.

The eight-week program, which emphasizes hands-on training and real-world applications, represents a significant step in the region’s workforce development. This year marked the first cohort at Cecil College, with students gaining critical skills and knowledge tailored to meet the demands of the utility sector.

“Cecil College’s partnership with Delmarva Power exemplifies our commitment to empowering individuals through targeted workforce training programs. By providing hands-on, industry-specific education, we are preparing our students not just for jobs, but for meaningful careers that contribute to the growth and stability of our community. This program is a prime example of how collaboration with industry leaders can create pathways to success for adults seeking new opportunities.” said Dr. Miles Dean, Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.

In addition to Cecil College, Delaware Technical Community College and the Forum for Advancing Minority Engineers (FAME) played key roles in this program, contributing to a total of 34 graduates who are now poised to enter the workforce. These graduates are equipped to pursue job opportunities with Delmarva Power and its allied contractors, ultimately contributing to the local economy and enhancing career prospects for themselves and their families.

“Our programs are tailored to provide students with the practical skills and knowledge they need to thrive in their careers, and I am confident they will bring fresh perspectives to the industry,” said Martin Harrison, Workforce Development Manager at Delmarva Power. “Working closely with these graduates is truly rewarding, and their enthusiasm and determination have been inspiring to witness. The opportunities that these programs provide are life-changing for many, and we are thrilled to be part of that journey.”

Cecil College’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development Division is dedicated to creating pathways for success by providing adults with the skills necessary for meaningful employment in high-demand fields.
