Completion Ceremony celebrates students

NORTH EAST, Md: Cecil College recently held its annual Continuing Education and Workforce Development Completion Ceremony, recognizing the achievements of program completers and GED graduates. The event saw participation from 49 individuals and was attended by nearly 400 people, including proud family members, friends, and community supporters.

The keynote speaker for the evening was Kimberly Justus, Executive Director of the Susquehanna Workforce Network, who delivered an inspiring address that resonated deeply with the audience.

“On behalf of the entire Cecil College community, I am honored to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our GED graduates and Workforce program completers. These accomplishments mark a significant milestone in their educational journey, one that reflects their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to personal and professional growth,” said Cecil College President Dr. Mary Way Bolt.

The ceremony featured moving reflections from three distinguished students: Christian Contreras (GED), Cadance Kilgus (HCC), and Chad Thomas (WF). Each student shared their personal experiences and the impact of their respective programs on their lives.

Student Speakers:

  • Christian Contreras – Highlighted his journey and achievements through the GED program.
  • Cadance Kilgus – Shared insights and experiences from the Health Career Certificate (HCC) program.
  • Chad Thomas – Reflected on his progress and success in the Workforce Development (WF) program, Marine Technology.

Carolyn Fletcher, Director of Adult Education, provided an overview of the significance of the Award of Excellence and the Award of Perseverance & Determination within the Continuing Education and Workforce Development framework. Carolyn Fletcher, Tammie Houck, and Amanda Pringle recognized the award recipients, celebrating their dedication and outstanding performance.

Health Career Certificate (HCC) Program:

  • Award of Excellence – Kirstann Fayer
  • Award of Perseverance & Determination – Regina Pontown

Workforce Development (WF) Program:

  • Award of Excellence – Tim Lehr, Diesel Technology
  • Award of Perseverance & Determination – Donnell Dingle, Diesel Technology

Dr. Miles Dean remarked, “This ceremony celebrates our students’ hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Each of them has demonstrated exceptional commitment to their education and personal growth. We are proud of their achievements and excited for their future endeavors.”

The event concluded with a reception, during which attendees celebrated and congratulated the graduates. Cecil College remains dedicated to providing high-quality education and training programs that equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in their careers and personal lives.
