Seahawks flying high in Region 20 tournament

NORTH EAST, Md. – The first round of the 2018 NJCAA Region 20 Division II Basketball Tournaments on Thursday and Friday, March 8-9, in the Physical Education Complex on the North East Campus, featured some nail-biting results. In the women’s tournament tipped off with No. 4 seed Northern Virginia Community College falling to No. 5 Hagerstown Community College, 61-51. Game 2 featured No. 2 seed Frederick Community College flying past No. 7 Allegany Community College, 70-47. The third game of the quarterfinals watched No. 3 Chesapeake Community College holding off No. 6 Potomac State for a 70-61 victory. No. 1 Cecil College will play Hagerstown on Saturday, March 10, at noon in the semifinals. The second semifinal game will be played at 2 p.m. featuring Frederick squaring off with Chesapeake. The championship game of the women’s tournament will be Sunday, March 11, at noon. The men’s bracket began its competition on Friday, March 9, at noon with No. 2 seed Beaver Community College facing No. 7 Northern Virginia Community College followed at 2 p.m. with No. 3 Southern Maryland Community College playing No. 6 Potomac State. The No. 4 seed Cecil College men’s team squares off with No. 5 Howard Community College at 4 p.m. followed by No. 1 Frederick Community College facing No. 8 Garrett Community College at 6 p.m. The semifinal games will be played Saturday, March 10, at 4 and 6 p.m. The championship game will be held Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $5 per day, $2 for senior citizens and children under the age of 10 are free. There is also a three-day pass for $12. These can be purchased at the door of the event.
