NORTH EAST, Md: The Cecil College Student Veterans Club held a Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony on Monday and Tuesday, May 20 and 21, in the Quad on the North East Campus, located at One Seahawk Drive, North East, Md.

Members of Cecil College faculty, staff and students, the community, and local Veterans gathered over the two days to place a flag in memory of a veteran. TAPS were played at noon on May 21 to honor all those killed in action or missing in action.

The Quad is encircled by flags representing the different branches of the U.S. military, along with the American Flag. Visitors were able to plant a smaller American Flag within the grass section, and there was seating for them to reminisce.  The “Static Flag Display” will remain on exhibit through Memorial Day.

The Student Veterans Club held a Memorial Day Contest within the community and received multiple entries. Judges reviewed the photography, video and writing entries for “What does Memorial Day mean to me?” The two winning entries were Gavin Roger’s essay and Ashley Kifer’s drawing. The contest winners are both students from Bohemia Manor High School and attended this week’s event.
